YOUNGSTERS in Fountainhall were celebrating the installation of new playground equipment at the primary school.

In preparation for the grand opening, pupils designed and created invitations which they sent out to special guests. They also made colourful posters to advertise the event.

Reverend Victoria Linford, Gala Rugby Youth Development Officer Ian Millar, Senior Education Officer Helen Ross and local councillors were joined by supportive parents, family members and local residents at the event, which saw Gala Rugby Club mascot Rooney cut a red ribbon to officially open the new playground.

The morning ended with guests being invited in to the school torefreshments and cake.

Headteacher Jenny Craig and principal teacher Rebecca Mackenzie praised Fountainhall’s Parent Council for working hard to secure funding for the project.

The council’s determination was rewarded with a £10,000 grant from Awards for All Scotland and £3,500 from the Scottish Windfarm Community Foundation.

Headteacher Jenny Craig said: “The installation of this playground has been a great addition to the village and we are sure that it will continue to bring enjoyment to many people in the future.”
