SELKIRK-BASED troubadour Kieran Halpin makes the short trip to Kelso to entertain the town’s folk club on Friday, July 13.
Usually found gigging all over the UK and Europe – he journeys to the Netherlands next month – Halpin is well used to travelling. The Irishman previously lived with his family for a year in a campervan in Australia, inspiring one of his 20 albums.
Recording since 1979, this year saw the release of Songbook 3, a collection of all his songs from the last three CDs.
He is a successful songwriter with many of his songs covered by other artists such as Vin Garbutt, Dolores Keane, Geraldine McGowan, Tom McConville, Niamh Parsons, The Battlefield Band, Flossie and the late John Wright.
Some have also been translated into German, Spanish and even Finnish.
Having moved to Stow in 1996, Halpin has since lived in Ashkirk and now Selkirk.
He plays at the Ace Centre at 7.30pm, with tickets £7 and £5 for club members and concessions.
