Melrose Flower Show trophy winners display their silverware after judging at the event held in the parish church hall.

Entries in vegetables, floral art and craftwork were particularly healthy, and the children excelled themselves with many colourful and imaginative entries in artwork, baking and crafts.

Trophies – McLaren Silver Challenge Bowl for a vase of sweet peas, George Goodfellow; Archibald Challenge Trophy for best vase of dahlias, George Ainslie; Andrew Archibald Memorial Cup for best vase of gladioli, Yvonne Young; Miss Curl Silver Challenge Cup for best vase of roses, Sarah McGowan; Jean Archibald Memorial Trophy for most points in flower section, George Ainslie; John Barron Memorial Trophy for most points in fruit section, Sarah McGowan; Melrose Town Council Silver Challenge Cup for most points in vegetable section, Jim Mercer; Sheena Barron Trophy for most points in needlecraft, Alison Aitken; Jean Anderson Trophy for most points in baking, Valerie Mayo; Davidson Silver Challenge Cup for a floral arrangement using five blooms, Alison Aitken; Association Cup for most points in floral art, Alison Aitken; Crosbie Trophy for the most points in classes 92-97 in the children’s section, Blair McGowan; Guthrie Rose Bowl for most points in children’s craftwork, Mieke Kalmijn. A special trophy in memory of Robert Clark for best exhibit in the show, this year chosen from the flower section, went to George Goodfellow.
