A FORMER greenkeeper at Torwoodlee golf course near Galashiels has been selected by the SNP to fight a by-election for the Highland ward of Perth and Kinross Council.

Mike Williamson, who is currently chairman of Aberfeldy Community Council, will take his chances on Thursday, September 15.

He has already received the endorsement of his party’s Perthshire North MSP and front bencher John Swinney who said: “The SNP could not ask for a better candidate.”

Mr Williamson, a native of Stockport, was head greenkeeper at Torwoodlee for several years before taking up a similar position at Aberfeldy Golf Club.
