Galashiels Town Band’s spring concert will be held on May 25 in the Volunteer Hall, starting at 7.30pm.

It features soloist Les Neish, a leading tuba player of his generation, and both adjudicator and tutor at the Borders Youth Brass Day held in January. He is pictured here with members of Galashiels Youth and Junior bands at that event.

Saturday’s concert will, of course, also include Galashiels Town, Youth and Junior bands, conducted by musical director Stuart Black, who said:
“We’re in for a treat from Les Neish on Saturday. It’s incredible the music he can make with the
tuba.”

The concert marks another step forward in the regeneration of the Town band, which features musicians from the Youth set-up.

Bandmaster Neal Wade explained: “In recent years the band has put on two concerts a year with the support of a guest band. I am very pleased that we can now put on an entire concert using just our own forces.”

The band will also be performing at this year’s Braw Lads’ Gathering overseas reception.

Concert tickets can be purchased at the door, or in advance from band members and A&A Doyle, 10 Bank Street, Galashiels.
