DOGS and their owners from around the region descended on Galashiels on Sunday to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Frances Pringle from Torwoodlee who organised the “go walkies” event around the picturesque Gala Policies, said: “It was great fun: a lovely walk through the beautiful woods with every size and shape of dog – and all to raise money for this really good cause.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took part and raised money, to the wonderful helpers and to the local businesses who donated prizes and put up posters. The event raised over £200.”

Mr Pringle, who is organiser of the charity’s Galashiels branch, said the money will go towards giving blind and partially sighted people the independence which having a guide dog brings.

Anyone who could not get to the event, but would like to donate, can do so at www.virginmoneygiving.com/gowalkies and get more information at the website www.gowalkies.org.uk.

Mrs Pringle added: “We’re hoping to hold other go walkies and Guide Dogs events in the area, but we can always do with more volunteers to help us, so if anyone would like to get involved, in any way at all, please contact me on 01896 757 458”.
