Gala kirk decision in February

THE future of the three Church of Scotland churches in Galashiels is to be determined by the Melrose and Peebles Presbytery at its February meeting.

The news was given to Tuesday meetings of the kirk sessions and congregational boards of Trinity and Caddonfoot churches, whose minister, the Rev Morag Dawson, recently vacated the charge.

The Rev Marion Dodd, former minister of Kelso North and now retired, is to be asked to act as locum minister.

There was speculation at the meeting that St John’s at Langlee and the Old Parish and St Pauls in Scott Crescent will link and that Trinity and Caddonfoot will remain a joint charge.

The presbytery’s decision has been delayed pending a review of St John’s, due for completion before the February meeting.
