It may be mid-June before the official Olympic torch makes its way to the Borders, but for the past few weeks another such torch has been seen on the streets of Galashiels.

To mark London 2012, nurseries and playgroups in the town are holding their own Olympic Games at Langlee Primary School on June 13 – complete with its own torch journey prior to the event.

Since leaving Glendinning Nursery in April, the torch has been making its way round all the local pre-school settings and last week it was the turn of the youngsters at St Peter’s Under-Fives Playgroup, in the Scout Hall, to hand it over to their counterparts at St Peter’s Primary School Nursery. The two groups met up at Old Gala House on Friday where the torch exchanged hands and games were played.
