Pupils at Galashiels Academy were in the limelight when the school held one of its four annual awards ceremonies this month.
The youngsters were joined by staff and parents for the sports and arts prize-giving event, held last Wednesday evening.
Galashiels Academy depute head teacher Pauline Anderson says the event was a big success.
“This was one of four awards ceremonies we have at Galashiels Academy, and it celebrates our pupils’ achievements in sports, arts and music.
“We were proud to show off our musical talents, with S6 pupil Charley Hutchison welcoming our guests whilst playing the flute, musical performances by The Rhythm Sharks – their first public performance – and a beautiful solo by our S1 pupil Erin Christie.
“We are particularly grateful to Carrie Corcoran, who stepped in at the last minute as our guest speaker.
“Carrie has an impressive record of achievement in hockey, including representing Scotland.
“It was a complete surprise for her daughter when Carrie presented Julia with her award for being a member of the S1 team who won the Borders hockey tournament.
“We are extremely proud of the achievements of our pupils and it is fantastic to see them being recognised for their success. Well done to them all.
“The prize-giving evening went really well, especially the performances by the pupils, and it was nice to have an opportunity for them to show off their talents.”
And she added that the next achievements evening would be in March, which would provide an opportunity for even wider recognition of pupil achievements.
