From one end of the country to the other
Melrose granny Heather McLoone - Land's End to John o'Groats walker
GRANDMOTHER Heather McLoone, pictured, from Melrose will set out at the beginning of March on a 1,000-mile walk from Land’s End to John o’Groats to raise funds for The National Eczema Society.
Having recently completed an Open University degree, the 57-year-old was looking for a fresh challenge which reawakened the dormant desire to emulate cricketer Ian Botham who completed the trek in 1985. She felt that while she still had her health, now was the time to undertake this challenge.
Heather said: “I really enjoy walking and am aware that this walk will be a massive physical and psychological challenge for me, which will probably take me to my limits.
“As an incentive to complete the challenge I decided to adopt a charity for fundraising, knowing that to fail would let others down. I decided to adopt a less-well-off charity that was in greater need of support.
“One in 12 adults and one in six children are affected with eczema and my 35-year-old son has dealt with eczema most of his life, so I chose to support them to enhance the understanding and continued research into the condition.”
