A TOTAL of 19 firefighters fought a house fire in Town Yetholm in the early hours of Monday morning.

Crews from Kelso, Coldstream and Galashiels required the help of a Scottish Borders Council snow plough to reach the blaze at Deanfield Road.

They received the call at 3.50am after a fire within the bungalow spread to the roof.

The owner was evacuated, as was a neighbour, as firefighters fought with the blaze for more than two hours, with the help of a hosereel jet.

A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the road conditions were “quite treacherous” due to snow and ice and added they were investigating the cause of the incident.
