Fire teams fight flood threat at Borders General Hospital

FIRE crews are battling to prevent flooding at the Borders General Hospital near Melrose, writes Bob Burgess.

Surface water from the roads surrounding the hospital have been threatening the hospital’s main entrance.

Staff raised the alarm around 4pm and Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service sent five appliances.

The turnout includes two specialised pumping units including a super-powerful pump based at Hawick.

The BGH is main hospital serving the Borders with general, surgical, maternity, cancer and psychiatric units.
