Festive opening hour for pubs

Pubs whose operating plans only allow them to sell alcohol till midnight on weekdays have been given dispensation to stay open till 1am on Christmas Eve and
Hogmanay.

In previous years, the Scottish Borders Licensing Board has required licensees to lodge special applications for this
concession, but the board agreed last week to allow on-sales premises to serve
alcohol until 1am on both respective Wednesdays – without having to apply.
