ROADWORKS in Hawick have fallen behind schedule and will have to be extended by 24 hours.
Trunk road operator BEAR Scotland says the delay is due to unforeseen circumstances and the police, bus companies and Scottish Borders Council have been informed.
Work on the stretch of the A7 between the police headquarters at Wilton Hill and the Galalaw roundabout won’t now be completed until tomorrow afternoon.
The resurfacing of Commercial Road, which should have taken place overnight last night, will now be carried out between 7pm tonight and 3am tomorrow.
As originally planned, the A7 will be closed tonight between Albert Road and the Dovemount Roundabout. Local access and access to Sainsbury’s will be maintained during the closure, said BEAR.
A signed diversion route will be in place. Motorists travelling northbound will be diverted onto Albert Road, Wilton Path and Princes Street, rejoining the A7 trunk road north of the Dovemount roundabout.
The diversion will operate in reverse for southbound drivers.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s operating representative, said: “Some delays are expected and we advise motorists to plan their journeys ahead.
“We would like to thank the local community for their extended patience while works to resurface the carriageway take place.”
