Banks Renewables began work to install a meteorological measurement mast (a Met mast) at a site in Heriot on Monday.
The company is considering proposals for a new wind farm at Hunt Law, which could involve up to seven wind turbines, each up to 125m high.
The mast will help in the design of the proposed wind farm development.
Miles Crossley, senior business development manager at Banks Renewables, said: “This stage of a wind farm development is very exciting. With the construction of the Met mast on site, we move into the detailed technical design and environmental assessments phase, enabling us to come up with the most sensitive possible design for the project.
“We have already had a number of meetings with community groups in the area and while we are still in the relatively early stages of the project, we intend to continue to develop these relationships and ensure the local communities are kept fully informed.
“The input and feedback of local families and business will be hugely important over the coming months.”
