CHURCH: The Reverend Marion Dodd conducted the morning service on Sunday in Caddonfoot Church. The lessons were read by Bill Brodie. A meeting to discuss a new noticeboard for the church was delayed a week due to illness.

PARISH CHURCH: Sunday morning’s service will be conducted by the Reverend Julie Woods.

COFFEE MORNING: The next monthly coffee morning and sale in aid of hall funds will be held in the village hall on Saturday. Anyone with anything to sell is invited to turn up, take a table and give a small donation.

SERVICE: There will be a service in Innerleithen Church on Sunday morning.

Jedburgh

COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning in the Royal British Legion raised, after expenses, £374.52 for the town’s Christmas lights fund. The latest quiz sheet, also in aid of the lights fund, raised £50. Organisers are grateful to all who supported these events.

HOLIDAY CLUB: An afternoon holiday club for P1-S1 children will be held in Kenmore Hall from August 6-10.

Morebattle

Senior Citizens: Morebattle senior citizens went to Seahouses on their annual outing. The weather was favourable and 32 people enjoyed a meal at the Lindisfarne Inn, Beal.

BLOOMING: Judges from the Beautiful Scotland in Bloom competition (wee village category) paid a visit. Despite wet weather, the village looked good.

Newstead

COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning is being held in Newstead village hall on Saturday in aid of the Vine Trust. Pupils from Earlston High School are raising money for their trip to Peru in 2013 where they will be visiting several orphanages, supporting and interacting with children who have had to overcome terrible difficulties. They will also be participating in a maintenance project to help secure the future safety of such youngsters.

St Boswells

GUILD: Tea, coffee and chat this evening (Thursday).

CHURCH: A morning holiday club will run from August 6-10 for primary-age children in the area in St Boswells Church Hall. Services in St Boswells Church on Sunday and August 12 will mark the start and finish of the club.

SERVICE: The next morning service in Traquair Kirk will be on August 12.

Yetholm

TEAM GAMES: Yetholm Festival of Fun has a few places left for team games – orienteering, archery, pottery, giant puppet making and fashion. WRI: A whist drive in the Youth Hall raised £150.50. Organisers are grateful to those who attended, and provided food and raffle prizes.

MP’S VISIT: Local MP Michael Moore visits Yetholm today (Thursday) for a lunchtime surgery in the Wauchope Hall. No appointment is necessary.

KELSO LADDIE: On the day of the Kelso Laddie rideout, an ITV camera crew was in the village. The filming was fronted by Rory Bremner.

ALLOTMENT ASSOCIATION: Most people in the village will be aware of improvements being made to the allotments.They were open as part of the Village Gardens day. New buildings have been erected and the irrigation system improved. A formal opening party will be held tomorrow afternoon (Friday).

MOTORCYCLISTS: In recent years a group of Vincent motorcycle enthusiasts have visited the village, encouraged by Sir Mark Goodson of Yetholm and a proud Vincent owner. This year the group stayed overnight at Kirkfield caravan park.
