AWARD-WINNING Danish fiddler Harald Haugaard stops off in Denholm on Monday as part of a three week UK tour.

He will be accompanied by his partner Helene Blum on his first Borders performance.

“We’ve stopped over in the Scottish Borders on previous tours but haven’t had the chance to play here,” said Haugaard.

“We’re really looking forward to our show at the Denholm Church. Much of the music we play is very suited for a church setting.”

During the past 15 years, Haugaard has established himself as one of Denmark’s most acknowledged musicians.

A spokesman for the show added: “His virtuoso fiddle playing combines the playful ease with a rich and melancholy sound.

“His compositions are contemporary, original and in his overall artistic work deeply rooted in the rich Danish musical tradition.”

Rooted in the tradition of his homeland’s music, he has picked up 10 Danish Music Awards.

Meanwhile, Blum’s voice has entertained audiences across the world.

Singing ancient songs and ballads as a base, she attempts to reinvent them with contemporary expressions and they mix elegantly with newly-written songs, including her own.

The Harald Haugaard Quartet play at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £8 in advance from Denholm Post Office, www.borderevents.com or £10 on the door. For more information phone 01835 870667.
