I note with interest your article of January 3 regarding the fear of increased dog fouling if community wardens are scrapped, and can only sympathise with the rugby players when the Peebles second XV game was called off because of a fouled pitch.
However, the fact that the pitch was fouled with dog dirt only goes to show how ineffective the community wardens are. In fact, I cannot say I have noticed any improvement in cleanliness since their arrival.
I would much rather the money saved by the scrapping of community wardens be put to good use in repairing our roads which are in a deplorable and dangerous state. This is especially noticeable where the roads have been use for the transport of logs.
I sincerely hope the budget for maintaining and improving our roads is raised to an adequate level to ensure lives and property are not at risk.
