Police hunt armed thief after taxi robbery

A taxi driver has been robbed by a knife-wielding passenger, writes Bob Burgess.

It happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Tulley Court on Glenfield Road West, close to Galashiiels town centre.

The driver had picked a fare at nearby Channel Street at around 12.30am.

Police confirmed the driver wasn’t injured during the robbery.

But they have issued a description of the man they are looking for and have appealed for witnesses.

The driver told police the suspect is around six feet, in his mid 20s and of thin build.

He spoke with a Glasgow accent and was wearing camouflage trousers and jacket, a Famous Grouse beanie hat and black boots.

Detective Sergeant Adrian Dixon said: “We are appealing for witnesses who were in the area at the time or who recognise the description of the suspect.”

Information can be given to the Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
