A GANG of Lithuanians who organised a shoplifting raid in Galashiels are now behind bars.

The three stole good worth more than £1,000 from Asda on March 12.

Selkirk Sheriff Court was told the two men a woman travelled from Edinburgh to raid the Currie Road superstore.

Konstantinas Podvorotnikovas, 20, was sent to a young offenders institution for 216 days; 18-year-old Marijus Liola for 108 days and Rasa Baitye, 19, for 162 days.

The court was told that all three intended to return to Lithuania after they had served their sentences.

The three had previously given police addresses in Edinburgh but in court were described as having no fixed abode.
