STUDENTS on an award-winning course at Selkirk High School will be popping up in a shop space in the town this weekend to raise funds for a trip to the Birmingham Clothes Show.

The Creative Fashion course students will take over 48 Market Place on Saturday to run a secondhand shop and will also have a stall at The Haining’s craft fair later in November, selling handmade cards and brooches.

This is the first year that the course is being run at Selkirk, having been set up in Hawick High School almost a decade ago.

Tutor Clair Hood said that the trips are a vital part of the course, showing the students just what can be achieved.

“We are trying to give the students experiences outwith the Borders,” she
added.

Pupils at Hawick have enjoyed trips to Sweden, London and even New York.

In March the Selkirk students will put on their own fashion show, modelling their creations.

Clair and fellow tutor Liz Parkes have also appealed for donations of fabrics, off-cuts and even tailors’ dummies to help the students on the Selkirk course.

Any donations can be handed in to the school
office.
