“THIS is the best debut CD that I’ve heard in years,” said Allan Henderson of Blazin’ Fiddles of Taransay fiddlers Corran Raa, pictured, who appear at the Rolling Hills Folk Club next Friday.

The fiddlers formed on a normally uninhabited Hebridean island, and have a common and passionate interest in their native music.

Originating from the length of the country, from Shetland to London, their intertwined musical paths eventually converged on Taransay in 2005.

The inspiration of those all night, midsummer, musical sessions led the band to take its name from a landmark of the islands stunning coastline.

Corran Raa perform in Melrose’s George and Abbotsford Hotel. The gig begins at 8.30pm with tickets £6 or £5 for concessions and free for students and YoungScot cardholders.
