Further to the letter from Ray Thompson published on February 3, I would like to ask anyone who has concerns about the condition of war memorials and photographs showing current problems to consider contacting the War Memorial Trust as well.
The trust is a charity that works for the protection and conservation of war memorials in the UK. We offer advice and information on a range of war memorial issues and administer grant schemes that can help local communities protect and conserve their war memorials.
The trust runs a grant scheme for Historic Scotland as well as its own grant programmes which make grants from £50 to £7,500, ensuring all types of memorial – from crosses to plaques, from cairns to bus shelters – can be assisted.
Anyone with a war memorial concern is welcome to contact the charity at 42a Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1W 0RE (phone 0300 123 0764, email email@example.com or visit www.warmemorials.org). Anyone keen to protect war memorial heritage in the area may wish to consider joining the trust and becoming one of our local volunteers.
