A RECORD producer who has worked with The Proclaimers and Karine Polwart is among the judges for the String Jam Club’s Songwriter of the Year competition this Saturday.

Colin MacFarlane is joined on the professional panel by Andy Gray, guitarist and owner of Merlin Music, and celebrated Borders songwriter and 12-string guitar player Bob Lawson.

Nine entries have so far been received, with the winner collecting a Merlin Music voucher and £50 cash prize, as well as a full-length showcase spot at String Jam Club at some point in the future.

They will also have a featured page on the String Jam Club website.

Mystery prizes will also be available, including a Professional Panel award.

The main winner will be decided by the audience vote, and tickets cost £6 in advance from the Salmon Inn, Galashiels (01896 752577). Doors open at 7.15pm.

Musicians can still enter (cost £3) by emailing afox@vixenrecords.com. All styles of music are welcome, but songs must be original.
