With good weather for most of the time and large attendances at many of the events, Earlston Civic Week went off with a bang.

The fun-packed week came to a close on Saturday with the annual torchlight procession and firework display.

Families came together throughout the festival for a range of events and activities, including a walking quiz, five-a-side football and entertainment in the marquee.

Pauline Gillan, chairperson of the civic week committee, told TheSouthern: “To have sunshine this year was amazing and everything was really well supported.

“The committee would like to thank the public, sponsors and helpers – everything went really smoothly this year. We are delighted with how it went, and Earlston did us proud.”

Having Borders band Scocha performing in the marquee on the Friday night proved a huge success, Pauline said. “They were awesome, and te marquee was full, which is a first. They really raised the roof.”

She added that despite a slightly-reduced entry for the fancy dress on Saturday, the standard was high.

“The quality was really good. A lot of work had gone into the entries and we even had a couple of floats this year.”

The Milestone-sponsored White and Black Hill races attracted good entries, with 72 runners taking part in the Black Hill race, which started this year from the town square.
