Galashiels Rotary Club president Isobel Johnson presents a £400 cheque to Stephen Fox, of Alzheimer Scotland, with Dave Romanis looking on.
The cash will go to the charity’s Borders branch, based in Kelso, which work with dementia sufferers in many ways, including six memory cafes across the region.
Stephen, who is local service manager spoke about the condition, whether it is a disease or part of ageing. It may develop slowly or quickly and, in reality, is a disease with major impact on the sufferer and their carers.
Most dementia sufferers are cared for at home and continue to be part of their local community. Support is given to carers, but there is a need for awareness of the condition across the community where people need to have some basic knowledge of the needs of sufferers they may meet.
