GALASHIELS accordionist Paul Capaldi, above, has claimed another three titles at the All Scotland Championships in Perth.

He won the Veteran Traditional section - which requires entrants to play a March, Strathspey and Reel - the Open Classical and Open Polka.

Paul said: “My three tunes were Miss Adrianne Farnan (March), The Laird o’ Drumblair (Strathspey) and Arthurs Seat (Reel). I was therefore presented with the Andrew Rankin Memorial Quaich, which I had also won two years ago.

“In the Open Classical section, I played my own arrangement of Hungarian Rhapsody No2 by Franz Liszt, and in the Open Polka section I performed Root Beer Rag by Billy Joel.

“What was equally pleasing though was that my pupil Zara Elliot from Clovenfords was third in the Under 12 Classical section playing Tango For Claude by Richard Galliano, on her first visit to Perth.”

Tonight (November 8) sees the Selkirk Club meet at the town’s Cricket Club at 7.30pm, with the ever popular Stuart Anderson from Hawick top of the bill. Players and non players welcome.
