Kelso resident Ian Nisbet at Borders General Hospital presenting two cheques, each for £2,000, to Kirsty Smith, Macmillan cancer information and support manager.

The recipients were the Borders Cancer Centre and Cancer Support Cars.

Having recently undergone treatment for cancer, Ian decided to express his appreciation for the care he received at the BGH by organising two fundraising events.

The first was a golf day in the form of a Texas Scramble. Seventeen teams competed in the event held at Kelso Golf Course.

This was followed by a dinner held at Kelso Rugby Club where the company were entertained by speakers Bill Rutherford, Alistair Moffat, Alan Brydon and George McNeil. Drew Gibb provided the musical entertainment while Jim Chisholm recited a Will Ogilvy poem. Richie Gray chaired the proceedings.
