DUBLINER Sean Hughes brings his Edinburgh Festival show to Langholm next weekend – and TheSouthern has two pairs of tickets to giveaway.

Ducks and Other Mistakes I Have Made is the latest routine from Sean, 45, who was the youngest winner of the festival’s coveted Perrier Award in 1990.

Best known for appearing as a team captain on BBC TV comedy/music show Never Mind the Buzzcocks alongside Phil Jupitus and Mark Lamarr from 1996 to 2002, he started stand-up comedy at the age of 13 after watching Richard Pryor on TV.

He went to London, and despite not enjoying his time in the capital, continued with stand-up and built up a reputation which earned him his place on the BBC TV comedy and music show.

This opened up other avenues, with appearances in The Last Detective and Coronation Street.

But by 2002 he turned his back on Never Mind the Buzzcocks and playing in front of huge crowds as a stand-up, sick of the celebrity lifestyle that it brought.

However, he returned to the stage at the tail end of the last decade and managed a sold-out Edinburgh Festival run in 2009, as his enthusiasm for his first love was reignited.

His latest show has been well received too, with Time Out magazine writing that Hughes is a “hugely impressive and intelligent comic... sometimes dark and always very entertaining”.

Other critics have described the show as “high calibre comedy” and “thoughtful, reflective humour”.

Tickets for Ducks and Other Mistakes I’ve Made, on Saturday, April 9, are priced at £14, with concessions £12. Pre-show supper is available – phone 013873 81196 for more details.
