Traffic flows on new Galashiels relief road

Waiting for Video...

A £12million traffic management scheme has finally been completed in Galashiels, writes Bob Burgess.

Traffic began flowing over the entire route of the Galashiels inner relief road early this morning.

The scheme was first mooted in 2005 and has been developed in stages with the return of Ladhope Vale to a two-way road after almost two decades, completing the project.

Scottish Borders Council says the scheme will bring environmental benefits as well as easing congestion.

A later development will see the creation of a transport hub for buses and the arrival of the rail link with Edinburgh.
