The Scottish Borders branch of the Chartered Institute of Tax (CIOT) and Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) was launched in 2013 and since then has held quarterly events providing continuing professional development (CPD) for its members and the wider accounting, taxation and legal professions.

The committee is now planning a special event on March 5 to celebrate the ATT’s 25th anniversary and are delighted that the ATT’s current president, Natalie Miller, will be on hand to speak about career opportunities in taxation, as well as highlighting the benefits of ATT membership.

There will also be a short presentation from Alison Ward (ATT Technical Officer) about the work of the ATT’s Technical Team, with a view to getting more members involved in contributing to the ATT’s responses to consultation documents and also perhaps recruit future members for the Technical Steering Group.

The final speakers of the session will be Stephen Hall and the Deloitte Entrepreneurial Business Tax Team from Newcastle, who will cover the broad spectrum of tax issues relevant to renewable energy projects. This session will provide the existing members and professionals with valuable CPD exploring the tax considerations for both landowners and developers, including tax efficient structuring, capital tax reliefs, venture capital incentives and capital allowances.

The Deloitte team will also provide a pre-election overview, considering potential tax changes.

The event will also be an excellent opportunity for employers, employees and students to learn about the ATT’s training structure which can lead to a rewarding career in tax and the committee very much hopes local careers advisers, schools and colleges will promote the event to their students.

The event will be held at Borders College in Galashiels, and will start at 3pm (registration is from 2.30pm) and this will then be followed by drinks and canapés from 4.30pm – 5pm.
