NEWTOWN St Boswells & District Farmers’ Show sponsor Dunbar seed merchant Johnny Watson presented cups to the summer show’s stock and crop winners at a prize dinner at the Buccleuch Hotel, St Boswells recently.
Over 45 attended when the overall winner was Grant Todd of Greenend, Melrose. Mr Todd won the best field of sheep and grass classes and was third in the wheat class. Other class winners were Rob Tinto (cows), Graham Dagg (grazing cattle), Robert Bruce (winter barley and spring barley classes), Robert Claydon (wheat), Donald Maxwell (oats), Charlie Stewart (oilseed rape)
Although the show was cancelled the Newtown St Boswells and District Farmers Club stock and crop competition went ahead and judges visited the competing farms to make their assessments. Cups would usually have been presented at the show so organisers held the prizegiving event.
New president Sandra Hamilton said: “It was very informal and a really good night.”
Mr Watson also gave a Watson Welly Bag to the first prize winners and a bottle of Watson Special Blend Whisky to the overall winner.
