A PEEBLES textiles firm has joined forces with four other Scottish companies to form a new consortium to supply rail carriage interiors.
Replin Fabrics, based at March Street Mills, has put together Rail Interiors Solutions alongside East Kilbride-based Novograf, Livingston’s Transcal, Forbo Flooring of Kirkcaldy and Glasgow’s Andrew Muirhead & Son.
It is hoped their combined expertise and experience of turning “an empty shell into a modern, attractive and comfortable haven for discerning passengers” will gather business from rail firms across the globe.
The firms have already collaborated on a £6million project to refurbish carriages for East Midlands Trains.
Cathy Black, head of textiles at Scottish Enterprise, said: “This is the kind of innovative approach we welcome from the Scottish textiles industries. There is no doubt that potential clients will be impressed not only by the initiative demonstrated by these companies to provide a full bespoke service, but also by the quality of their end product.”
Rail Interiors Solutions’ first public show was at Railway Interiors Expo 2011 in Cologne, Germany, last week, attracting visitors from more than 60 countries.
