This Saturday (December 6) local MP Michael Moore will be celebrating the second UK Small Business Saturday in Galashiels, Selkirk and Hawick.
The day is a chance for small businesses to promote themselves and generate trade.
During last year’s campaign, 48 per cent of UK consumers said they were aware of the day and 40 per cent of local authorities supported it.
Of the 4.9 million businesses in the UK, more than 99 per cent are small or medium-sized (employing 0-249 people), and 4.7 million (95 per cent) are micro-businesses (employing 0-9 people).
Mr Moore said: “Small businesses are the lifeblood of the Borders economy, creating growth and jobs which are vital for local people.
“There is a huge amount of concern locally about the future of our high streets. That is why I am backing Small Business Saturday in Hawick and Galashiels and encouraging people to support small businesses and think local when they shop.
“With the added attraction of Scott’s Selkirk promoting local crafts and fare, this is a great weekend to show support for local businesses.
“I hope that this day is a real success for local businesses and encourages people to support small businesses in their area.”
