At St Boswells Mart on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 164 clean cattle, 95 OTM cattle, 2,526 prime hoggs and 941 ewes.
Bullocks (74) averaged 167p per kg (-2.9p on the week) and sold to 194p from Gospelhall, gross £1308 from Lurdenlaw. Heifers (81) averaged 170p per kg (-2.3p on the week) and sold to 200p from Penston, gross £1247 from Humebyres. The nine young bulls averaged 150.3p per kg (-3.7 on the week) and sold to 172p gross £1195 from Upper Nisbet. The 95 beef type OTM cattle averaged 110.7p per kg and sold to 157p from Huntington, gross £1225 from Dods.
The 2,526 prime hoggs averaged 179.8p per kg (-11.1p on the week) and sold to £95 a head for Suffolks from M/s RG Laing and Sons, Oxmuir, and 218.4p per kg from A and K Rhind and Sons, Newton of Struthers, for a tremendous pen of Beltex lambs. The 941 ewes averaged £59.68 (-£2.14 on the week) and sold to £103 for a pen of Suffolks from W and W Dawson, Whinbrae, Huntly.

A mixed show of prime cattle saw quality sorts maintaining recent high rates to a top of 184.5p (x2) for Limousins from A. Young bulls sold to 155.5p for Limousin from Whiteclose. A lot of feeding cows on offer were met by a similar trade with top prices of 141.5p and 123.5p for Simmental and Charolais heifers from J.W. An excellent show of 4,526 prime hoggs were forward. A few new buyers around the ring resulted in a stronger trade and an overall average of 185.9p per kilo. More lean export weight lambs (35-42kg) could have been sold to advantage (SQQ 32-45kg 186.2p per kilo). The price per kilo of 249p for Beltex from Stockwellhall.
