At their weekly primestock sale on Monday, John Swan Ltd sold 78 clean cattle, 78 OTM cattle, 3,187 new season lambs and 720 ewes.

Bullocks (32) averaged 216.1p per kg and sold to 246p (-3.4p on week).

Heifers (46) averaged 219.2p per kg and sold to 249p (+3.7p on week).

The 78 beef type OTM cattle averaged 108.3p per kg and sold to 190p (n/c on the week).

New season lambs averaged 178.3p per kg (-2.3p on the week) £78.87 per head and sold to £99.50, top price 229p per kg for Beltex.

Ewes averaged £54.45 and sold to £110.50 for a Texel.

Heavy ewes averaged £66.32 and light ewes sold to £62 for BF and averaged £41.73.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart plc had forward 22 prime cattle, two young bulls, 18 over 30 month cattle, 7,077 prime lambs and 4,922 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday, November 13.

Prime cattle sold a little sharper on the week and topped at 224.5p for a Limousin heifer sold by J. and N. Blaylock and Son, Hallburn, others to 222.5p also from Hallburn. Limousin bullocks to 218.5p from D.J. Garthwaite and Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage.

Bulls sold to 171.5p for Angus from Raeburnhead, Black and Whites to 149.5p Middlebie Hill.

A very mixed show of cast cows saw trade in line with the national trend. Top price to 146.5p for a British Blue cow shown by N. Calvert and Son, Greensburn.

A monster show of 7,077 prime lambs met the dearest trade of the season so far. The sale averaged 178p (SQQ 182.5p). All classes sharper on the week with the best quality lambs realising extreme rates and a tremendous show of heavyweight lambs the dearest trade seen anywhere this week. Light weight and export weight lambs continue to be short of buyers requirements and sold at recent high rates. Top price of £170 per head, 327p per kilo for Texels.
