At their weekly Prime Stock sale John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,066 lambs and 567 ewes.

The stagnant lamb trade continued, although returns greater than most early week markets, quality types again easily sold at a premium.

John Swan Ltd sold 67 clean cattle, 90 OTM cattle, 1,793 new season lambs and 1,516 ewes.

Bullocks (29) averaged 240.3p per kg and sold to 273p (-3.8p on week), heifers (37) averaged 232.5p per kg and sold to 270p (-6.5 p on week), one young bull sold to 213p (n/c on week), 84 beef type OTM cattle averaged 127.8p per kg and sold to 191p (n/c on the week) and six dairy type OTM cattle averaged 94.2p per kg and sold to 107p (n/c on the week).

The 1,793 new season lambs averaged 178p per kg (+8.8p on week) and sold to £106 and 1,516 ewes averaged £46.93 and sold to £97, £125 for tups. Heavy ewes £64.20, light ewes £39.67.

Border Livestock

Last week Border Livestock Exchange sold 101 prime cattle including 31 cows, 1,798 prime lambs, 1,723 store and breeding sheep and 51 store and breeding cattle.

Prime cattle continue to sell exceptionally well with Aberdeen Angus x bullocks and heifers sold to 455p per kilo. Continental bullocks anhd heifers to 412p per kilo. Home bred young bulls from Bowsden Moor, Berwick, sold to £2,089 per head. Cull cows to £1,170 from Bowsden Moor, and £1,012 per head Hedgeley Farms, Powburn.

Lamb trade is on the rise with organic lambs selling to 400p per kilo from Edlingham Demesne, Alnwick. Texel x lambs to 390p. Store lambs continue to sell well with longer keeping types keenly sought after. North Country Cheviot gimmers to £135.
