MARKET PRICES

ST BOSWELLS

AT St Boswells Mart on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 103 clean cattle, 45 OTM cattle, 854 spring lambs and 405 ewes.

Bullocks (53) averaged 211.9p per kg (-0.5p on the week). Heifers (49) averaged 209.4p per kg (+7.3p on the week). One young bull averaged 2.27p per kg (n/c on the week) and 45 beef type OTM cattle averaged 158.7p per k, (+2.7p on the week).

The 854 spring lambs averaged 212p per kg (+4.4p on the week) including 569 38-41kgs averaging 214.4p and 405 ewes averaged ÂŁ96.01, (+ÂŁ7.86 on the week).

At the annual Summer Show and Sale of Prime Cattle, sponsored by ATS Euromaster, the judge Mr R. Pringle, Butcher, Hawick, awarded the Champion, a Heifer from M/s WB Hamilton and Sons, Bee Edge which scaled 575kgs and made 265p per kg, ÂŁ1523 to M/s Malone of Edinburgh, reserve was awarded to a Bullock from same farm scaled 590kgs and made 250p per kg, ÂŁ1475 to M/s WTS Forsyth and Sons, Peebles.

Class 1: Single Native Bred Bullock: 1st Willowford weight 590 made 2.30 to Martin Baird Butchers;

2nd Willowford weight 615 made 2.10 to Shaw Fine Meats; 3rd Bonnington weight 575 made 1.96 to Scottish Borders Abattoir.

Class 2 : Single Continental Bullock: 1st Bee Edge, weight 590, made 2.50 to M/s WTS Forsyth and Sons; 2nd Lurdenlaw, weight 716, made 2.26 to M/s Cropper; 3rd Longnewton, weight 685, made 2.20 to M/s Cropper.

Class 3: Single Native Bred Heifer: 1st Willowford, weight 595, made 2.13 to Scotbeef; 2nd Outerston, weight 510, made 1.90 to Scotbeef; 3rd Outerston weight 480 made 1.84 to Scotbeef.

Class 4: Single Continental Heifer: 1st Bee Edge, weight 575, made 2.65 to Malones of Edinburgh; 2nd Traprain, weight 635, made 2.28 to Malones of Edinburgh; 3rd Longnewton, weight 605, made 223 to M/s Cropper.

AT their weekly Primestock Sale held at Wooler last Wednesday John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 629 lambs, 82 hoggs and young sheep and 121 ewes.

Lambs forward in larger numbers and trade maintained great scope for this centre to handle more. Overall average 209.2p.
