AT St Boswells Mart on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 104 clean cattle, 94 OTM cattle, 3,830 spring lambs and 1276 ewes.

Bullocks (46) averaged 202p per kg (+3.0p on the week) and sold to 216p, gross £1470 from Ramrig.

Heifers (42) averaged 193p per kg (1.0p on the week) and sold to 216p, gross £1231 from Bee Edge.

The 16 young bulls averaged 170.3p per kg (n/c on the week) and sold to 186p from Hexpath, gross £1132 from Milkieston.

The 94 beef type OTM cattle averaged 132.6p per kg (n/c on the week) and sold to 173p from Rumbleton, gross £1572 from Ecclaw.

The five dairy type OTM cattle averaged 107.6 p per kg and sold to 111p from Over Langshaw and Doddington, gross £700 from Doddington.

The 3,830 spring lambs averaged 174.1p per kg (+1p on the week) and sold to £88 a head from M/s Brown and Sons, Stoneypath, and 200p per kg from M/s Pate, Craigsford Mains. The 1,276 ewes averaged £65.06 (+£1.58 on the week) and sold to £117 from M/s Bell, Chapel Mains.

AT their weekly Primestock Sale held at Wooler last Wednesday John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,336 lambs and 370 ewes.

Lambs dearer, again in spec lambs showing the most significant rise, all classes in keen demand.

BORDER LIVESTOCK

DURING the week ending FRiday, October 14, Border Livestock Exchange Ltd sold 108 prime cattle including 42 cast cows, 3,571 prime lambs, 521 cast ewes, 120 breeding ewes, 1,780 store lambs and 447 store cattle.

Significant improvement in the lamb trade was realised with organic lambs from Tullochallum, Keith, selling to 410p per kilo and £86.10 per head.

Export weights sold to 395p per kilo and £82.95 Venchen, Yetholm; 390p and £81.90 Townhead, Bonchester Bridge, and Symington Mains, Stow.

Continental steers from Easington Grange, Belford, sold to £1,490; Aberdeen Angus x steers from Mervinslaw, Jedburgh, sold to 352p per kilo and £1,476 per head. Continental x heifers from Cairndinnis, Haddington, sold to 350p and £1,252 per head.

Limousin young bulls from Bowsden Moor, Berwick, sold to 332p and £1,437 per head to Linden Foods, Newcastle. Continental cows from Duncrahill sold to 295p; Angus cows from Berryhill, Duddo, to 280p and £1,200.

Store cattle sales were particularly active with 18 month cattle exceeding the £1,000 mark and spring born over 200p per kilo.

Store lambs reflected the prime lamb improvements with Texel lambs to £62; Lleyn to £60 and a consignment of 496 Hill Cheviots at £57.
