a FORMER Kelso High School pupil has reached the final of two national awards to find the UK’s best parent blogs.

Ruth Dawkins’ opinions and insights on DorkyMum have resulted in her being selected as one of five finalists in the Best New Blog category of the MAD Blog Awards, beating more than 2,000 other nominations.

She is also up for the Fresh Voice section of BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards.

Ruth, who has one child, now lives in Hertfordshire. She said: “When I started blogging last May, as a way to get back into writing after two years as a full-time parent, I had no idea what it would lead to.

“In the year that DorkyMum has been up and running I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people who have read and commented on the blog.

“Some of the topics I’ve written about have also led to me being published elsewhere – such as in the Guardian and Easy Living magazine.

“To be nominated as Best New Blog in the MADs is a huge honour – a perfect end to my first year as a blogger – and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Sally Whittle, founder of the MAD Blog awards, said: “We were absolutely thrilled by the quality of the blogs entered for the awards this year, and are really excited to see what happens next.”

Anyone wishing to vote for Ruth’s blog can do so at the MAD Blog Awards website – www.the-mads.com – and the winners will be announced at a ceremony in London in September.
