FARMERS are being urged to put forward anyone qualifying for a long service medal to the Kelso show society.

The biennial Borders long service awards lunch takes place in the Springwood Hall in the Border Union showground, Kelso in February.

So far eight people have been put forward, including one who will receive an award for 50 years’ service.

Show secretary Ron Wilson said: “There are a number more in the pipeline and the Border Union will be very pleased to hear from any employer or employee who has been on the same farm or with the same employer for 30, 40, or 50 years.”

February’s will be the 30th awards lunch held since 1955 and there have been 582 awards winners with 20,121 years of service in agriculture.

Mr Wilson said: “It is little wonder that farming in the Borders is held in such high esteem with loyalty such as this.”
