A plea for the Great Tapestry of Scotland to be given a permanent home in Galashiels has been issued this week.
It comes from Energise Galashiels, the campaigning business group set up to exploit the commercial potential of the Borders Railway.
The group is urging the public to lobby their local councillor ahead of a business case debate – for the extensive artwork to be displayed at a purpose-built centre near the new station at Tweedbank – next month.
Councillors are being asked to consider Galashiels as the optimum location and to convince the trustees of the tapestry in these terms.
“The siting of a major attraction at Tweedbank, so far away from a commercial centre, is folly and a missed opportunity for the traders of Galashiels,” says the group.
