PREMISES have been secured for a new information centre in the centre of Galashiels.
The former Eildon Travel shop in Channel Street has been confirmed as the venue for which local businesswoman Lynda Stoddart intends to support the town’s fortunes.
It will aim to enhance the sense of pride within the town by supporting and promoting community events as well as promoting the town itself and local products.
Mrs Stoddart now hopes to have the facility up and running by the end of August and is offering local arts and crafts enthusiasts the chance to have their work featured in the new shop.
“Regardless of the style, or background, I would love to see the work of local artists and crafters on display,” she told us. “This presents an excellent opportunity for people to promote their work in a busy part of the largest town in the Borders.
“The economic sustainability of this project will be supported by the retailing of images and postcards of the local area, together with quintessential Scottish merchandise, such as the work of local artists and crafters.”
The Community Interest Company behind the info hub has been granted a lottery licence, and will be promoting a local 50/50 style lottery to ensure the aims and objectives are met.
