Galashiels-based financial services firm Lowland has been named among the top 100 advisers in the whole of the UK.
The award, sponsored by leading financial publisher Citywire, was announced in the New Model Adviser magazine.
The company is the only one in the Borders to make the top 100, and is one of just 12 from Scotland.
The magazine assessed a range of factors before coming up with the top 100, including level of qualifications, assets under advice and involvement in the financial services community.
Graeme Mitchell, managing director of Lowland Financial, said: “I knew there was this award, so I stuck our name forward, but I was astonished when the details came through.”
He added: “The award is recognition of our dedication and client care, and commitment to the profession.”
With 35 years of experience within various aspects of financial services, Mr Mitchell has just put together a guide to retirement.
“I took the knowledge I have gleaned and put it in one place so that people can dip in to it and have a look and, hopefully, it will give them some ideas,” he said.
He explained: “If someone is in retirement, or thinking about it, there should be something in the guide to help.
“But the important thing is that if it is relevant and if they are confident about discussing their circumstances, they should get in touch.
“I can then make the advice specific and tailored to them, and there will probably be something I can do that makes a difference and adds value.”
Mr Mitchell added: “Most people instinctively get it more or less right – they have maybe got a state pension, have put some money away and maybe have another pension or ISA.
“I can help them at the margins, to make their money do better. I can’t magic money from nowhere, but I can help make more of what they have got.”
