Five stars awarded to Newcastleton business

A NEW self-catering complex in the centre of Newcastleton has been awarded five-star status by tourist chiefs.

Dalkeith House is a former Georgian manse which now offers sleeping accommodation for 10 in five double bedrooms.

It has been granted a licence by Scottish Borders Council to operate as a venue for weddings and civil partnerships.

The property, on the corner of Douglas Square, was only opened in May by owner Barbara Elborn.

She commented: “We are delighted. Our investment in interiors and equipment is already paying back as we are attracting new markets to our property and more importantly to the village. It’s the perfect location for a weekend break or a corporate get together and we are looking forward to hosting our first wedding.”

Sandi Hellowell, the regional director of VisitScotland added: “Quality is the key in providing a memorable experience for visitors to the Borders and this latest addition to the tourist product is both welcome and inspiring.”

The village and the surrounding area is a haven for mountain bikers and walkers.
