Fact file – Andrew Grant

Company director, landowner and farmer Andrew Grant was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the college.

He left school at 16 and graduated with a diploma in Rural Estate Management from the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, and became a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 1978. In 1980 he took over the running of the 1,750-acre diversified agricultural Riddell Estate near Lilliesleaf, which has been in his family since 1823. He continues to run it with his wife Virginia.

He’s a past member of the college’s board of management and maintains a strong link with the college’s landbased department, whose students have enjoyed facilities at Riddell for 26 years.

He’s a past chair and a current director of Scott Country Lamb and a past chair and current director of Farm Stock (Scotland) Ltd – the largest livestock marketing group in Scotland.

Andrew and Virginia have a son, Charlie, working in Sydney and a daughter, Rosie, who is teaching in Bejing.
