Events set to boost business

The region’s first ‘Business Week’ starts on Monday with a wide ranging programme of events for businesses of all sizes and from all sectors.

Business Gateway Scottish Borders is delivering the programme of talks, business breakfasts, exhibitions and workshops in partnership with a range of partner agencies, local entrepreneurs and business experts.

Events, many free, will take place across the Borders, with the key aim of showcasing business opportunities, establishing new contacts and learning from those who have built their own businesses in the area.

Raymond Kerr, co-founder and director of Galashiels-based Qube GB, is one of the keynote speakers.

Mr Kerr said: “I see Business Week as a proactive step for our business community, and the clever use of social media has allowed Business Gateway to reach out more into the community to inform and further establish itself as community business resource.

“The programme is an opportunity for people who are already in business and those about to enter into it to meet, network and discuss the topics which are of importance to them.”

The council’s executive member for economic development, Councillor Stuart Bell, added: “This is the first time a Business Week has been delivered within the Scottish Borders, and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic event, with a packed programme featuring some excellent speakers.

“There is also an informative seminar and networking programme, and the majority of events are free of charge.

“We are hopeful that business-owners will make full use of Business Week to help identify future sources of support and advice to help them grow and develop their businesses in the future, as well as hearing about the journey and experiences of successful Scottish Borders businesses.”

Mr Bell added: “Our partner agencies have been particularly supportive and active in staging and delivering events, ranging from recruitment and training through to how to improve your business’ carbon footprint and ensuring your website is delivering the results that will maximise online sales potential.”
