There was a record entry at the Upper Teviotdale Society annual sheepdog trial at Whitchesters Farm on Sunday when 62 dogs ran.

Comrie’s Murray McTier of Invergeldie won with Kate on 97 points. Second place went to Hazel Brown from Biggar with Pat, also on 92 points – and Hazel won the novice cup too, while Heriot’s Julie Hill of Carcant Farm was third with Mac, gaining 91 points.

Competitors from Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, France and the UK enjoyed glorious weather which showed off the Teviot Valley at its best.

And the fourth place in the trials went to Emmanid Detreitass from Portugal who gained 90.5 points.

Judge Chris Smart from St Boswells had a hard day’s adjudicating with the final competitor making it onto the prize list.

Many of the competitors were en route to the world championships at Tain, but the Border hospitality and friendliness of the trial was much appreciated by all.

Once again the event was sponsored by Eric Watson Dog Foods, with the catering by Liz Howieson, while the Royal Bank of Scotland also supported the event. Grateful thanks to all who helped on the day and especially hosts Forest and Mary Irving.

Other results:

5, Northumberland’s David Henderson (with Chief on 90 points); 6, Robin Laurie, Innerleithen (Tid, 90); 7, John Foster, Earlston (Tay, 90); 8, Andrew Emmerson, Selkirk, (Midge, 90). The four on 90 were sorted on outrun, lift and fetch.
