A Borders-based sales and marketing team has helped secure a significant award for construction attachment retailers Astra Site Services.

The firm, run by Jedburgh man Mark Graham, decided to base the team in Newtown St Boswells in January, after having staff recruitment and retention issues elsewhere in the UK.

Now the team of four locals has helped win the ‘Outstanding European Dealership’ award from leading demolition equipment company Soosan Heavy Industries.

At a recent international construction trade show in Munich, the largest of its kind in the world, the Soosan president Mr Hwang presented Mr Graham with the award.

Astra Site Services successfully beat off strong competition from more established dealerships across Europe to take the award.

The firm has been the UK’s sole distributor for South Korean firm Soosan since 2010, and the Tweed Horizons based sales team has, in just four months, sold a record amount of Soosan equipment across the country.

Mr Graham, managing director, said: “I am very proud of all the team at Astra for their hard work and achievements over the past 12 months.

“The addition of the Borders-based sales and marketing team has enabled us to spread the word across the UK about Astra.

“We are market leaders in the specialist world of excavator attachments and having a team I can trust to spread this message is essential for continued growth.”

“The sales and marketing team’s dedication, enthusiasm and approach is fantastic.”

Mr Graham added: “They have been very well received by the industry, so much so that we will be looking for two more members to join the team, based at Newtown St Boswells, in June 2013.

“Their success means a sixth depot will be opening in the north east later this year.”

Astra Site Services has grown from its initial base and head office in Bathgate and now has a network of depots throughout the country to offer a nationwide service.

These include London, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.
