A LOANHEAD-based bus company has had two school contracts suspended by Scottish Borders Council after a wheel came off a vehicle earlier this month.

The incident, involving the P14 bus operated by McKendry Coaches, happened on May 2 when the vehicle was travelling between Peebles High School and West Linton.

An SBC statement explained: “The safety of our pupils is paramount and we are awaiting the results of a full investigation by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and Lothian and Borders Police. Appropriate action will be taken on completion of this investigation.”

A police spokesman said the incident – in which no one was injured – occurred on the A72 road near its junction with the B7059 at Drochill Castle.
